In the maze of our career, sometimes we find ourselves adrift, sailing through the waters of accidental career choices. Today, let's confront this reality head-on.
Acknowledging Career Drift: The Wake-Up Call to Action
The term 'Drift,' coined by writer Meredith Paig, struck a a chord with me. It encapsulates the profound notion of waking up to an existence we never intended—an accidental life.
Meredith's words echo the silent struggles so many endure. I talk with clients frequently about being entrenched in careers they don't like, wondering how they got there... and how to find way out! The realisation that we've drifted into a life we never truly envisioned can be jarring, yet it's the first step towards transformation.
As Barack Obama aptly puts it... "We are the ones we've been waiting for" No saviour will swoop in to rescue us from the lives we've inadvertently crafted. The onus lies squarely on our shoulders. This was a difficult lesson I learned, before I ignited my second career change.
Seizing Control: Prioritising Living on Purpose, Over Drift
Greg McKeown (author of Essentialism) woke me up with a powerful quote.. "If you don't prioritise your life, someone else will" It resonated deeply with me, helping to recognise that I was in a "Career Drift".
I'm tipping, you're here because a part of you is yearning for change in your career. Is it time to reclaim authority over your priorities, and assertively declare... "I'm ready to stop the drift"?
Don't wait for a tap on the shoulder, offering guidance to redirect your Career path. The decision to forge a new path rests with us alone.
Embracing Career Change: Answer the call
Amidst the uncertainty, there lies a promise of great reward (I know, I've answered the call myself!) As Mary Oliver poignantly asks.. "What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" It's time to answer that call.
Even amidst a million excuses, remember to be stronger than your excuses. Uncertain choices often pave the way for remarkable journeys, the first step into the unknown unveils a path of newfound purpose.
Your Declaration Matters: Taking the First Step on your new Career Path
Declare your intentions (below in the comments, to your partner, friend, sibling, parent). For in declaration lies the seed of action. Embrace the crossroads you find yourself at, and let it be the catalyst for profound change.
May your declaration guide you towards clarity, purpose, and the unwavering resolve to carve a career that aligns with who you are.
Your journey begins now. Take that first step, and let it be the start of your transformative career path.
In your declaration lies the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
Let's embark on this journey together.
Until Next time,
Binny
